Gao Yunlong met with Macao visiting group
Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), met with a 40 people’s delegation of “Promoting Macao's development as a world tourism and leisure center” led by Pansy Ho, vice chairman and secretary-general of Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF) based in Macao Special Administrative Region on July 17, 2019.
Gao said that the “one country, two system” approach has been carried out in Macao fully in the last 20 years, which has brought harmonious social economic development and people’s livelihood with good preservation of multiculture. The achievement in tourism development was especially outstanding and worthy of acknowledgement.
The central government has attached great importance to the development of Macao’s society, politics and economy, frequently mentioning “support Macao to better integrate into China’s national development strategy and to strengthen mutual beneficial cooperation with inland”.
The Belt and Road Initiative has create more opportunities for Macao’s tourism development; whereas, the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) plan has laid an important foundation for Macao’s long-term development and future design. Both strategies provide broad platform for Macao to play its unique role and advantages.
Gao acknowledged GTEF’s contribution in promoting Macao’s economic development, enhancing China’s interaction with world tourism industry and especially with Portuguese speaking countries.
He said that tourism, which is close to people's livelihood and culture, is a direct channel for people from all over the world to understand each other.
He hoped that people from the industrial and commercial fields in Macao could continue playing their influence and leading role to expand cooperation and promote industrial transformation and upgrading so as to make Macao into a world tourism and leisure center with moderately diversified and sustainable economic development, which would play positive role in rejuvenating the Chinese nation.
Pansy Ho introduced Macao’s tourism industry’s achievement and experience in the last two decades.
Macao has sped up building a world tourism and leisure enter, constantly improving service and relevant infrastructure. She said.
As international tourism resort, Macao's inbound tourists increased from 7.44 million in 1999 to 35.82 million in 2018, with an average annual growth rate of 8.2 percent. This year, it is said to be exceed 40 million.
Pansy Ho also extended appreciation to the ACFIC for its support with Macao’s social economic development.
She hoped that the ACFIC would take the Global Tourism Economy Forum as a platform to promote inland private enterprises to work with their counterparts in Macao for a win-win situation and “go out” together in various areas along the Portuguese speaking countries with the Belt and Road Initiative.
The GBA construction also provides a chance for inland and Macao enterprises to strengthen cooperation in docking production with study and lab research so as to support Macao’s high end sci-tech industry development.
Gao Yunlong responded Pansy’s suggestions and related problems proposed by the members of the delegation.
He said that the central government would not change its policy towards Macao and would, as always, care for and support Macao's political, economic and social development.
He encouraged Macao enterprises to continue strengthen sci-tech capability and stay confident with China’s overall economic development.
“Macao will thrive once the nation thrives. And Macao’s getting better will make the country better likewise.” Gao said.
Yao Jian, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., Zheng Yuewen, ACFIC vice president and president of China chamber of international cooperation for the private sector and board chairman of the Creat Group Corporation, Liu Bin and Xu Jun with the Macao liaison office’s economy, and chair persons with ACFIC’s liaison and membership departments, China Chamber of Tourism, China Environment Chamber of Commerce, China Mergers & Acquisitions Association, China chamber of international cooperation for the private sector, ACFIC young entrepreneurs committee and Beijing young entrepreneurs chamber attended the meeting.
