Gao Yunlong attended the 14th Cross-Strait, HK and Macao economic forum and BR summit

Invited by the Macao Chamber of Commerce (MCC) and the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), led a delegation of the ACFIC to attend the 14th Cross-Strait and Hong Kong, Macao economic forum in Macao and the 4th Belt and Road Summit in HK from Spet. 8 to 12, 2019.
 


The 14th economic forum of cross-strait, HK and Macao, was co-organized by the ACFIC, the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMAHK), and the MCC was held in Macao on Sept. 9,2019.
 
Over 100 people of the commerce and industry from cross the strait, HK ad Macao, exchanged on the theme of “opportunities brought by the Guangdong - Hongkong - Macao Greater Bay Area for the inland, Taiwan, HK and Macao”.
 
On the opening ceremony, Gao Yunlong said that the greater bay area was an important door of China’s foreign trade with highest degree of openness and was one of the most dynamic areas in China, and that it had gathered advanced thoughts, high-end technology, and various investment to undergo a transformation oriented by innovation and creativity.
 
He said it would become a shining star on the area of global economy. With the inter-complementary advantage, cities in this area would develop jointly and influence the surrounding areas.
 
Gao proposed three suggestions to call on the circle of industry and commerce to participate in the construction of the greater bay area.
 
First, he hoped them to work on scientific research and innovation and deepen related cooperation so as to turn from “reply on each others’ supply on fund and product” to “mutual help with self-reliance”, which would input more driving force into the construction of the greater bay area.
 
Second, he hoped the young people would make efforts in innovation and communication with an aspiration to be a pioneer in pursuing lofty dreams whereby individual value is linked and displayed in the great cause of rejuvenating the Chinese nation.
 
Thirdly, he asked the business chambers and associations to enhance exchanges and play well the role of a bridge in gathering and coordinating resources so as to create more opportunities and platforms for win-win cooperation and high-quality and sustainable development.
 
The 4th Belt and Road Summit was held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC) on Sept. 11, 2019.
 
Over 5000 people attended the summit and exchanged on the new development and opportunities brought by the Belt and Road with the theme of “creating and realising opportunities”.
 
On the opening ceremony, Gao Yunlong said that HK holing the summit themed “creating and realising opportunities” 20 days before the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China carried a special meaning.
 
With the inland as back yard, HK is an important international financial, navigation and trade center in the world, with developed third industry and an open-minded culture, which is an important and unique force to build the Belt and Road.
 
With the strong support from the central government, HK has made a series of achievement in promoting the construction of the greater bay area and participating fully in the Belt and Road.
 
Gao offered three suggestions on constructing the Belt and Road with high quality.
 
First, he called on innovation-driven development, which promotes the sci-tech level, industrial structural upgrading and financial mechanism docking in countries alongside the Belt and Road.
 
Second, he stressed on sustainable development in these countries, which attaches importance to improving infrastructure and industrial chain and to unlock market vitality and improve people’s livelihood.
 
Thirdly, he asked to give play to the main role of enterprises in promoting good environment of entrepreneurship in the countries along the Belt and Road so as to form a modernized market system.
 
He hoped that the HK would play its advantage of being “centers” of various fields, and consolidate cooperation with the inland, providing professional service and personnel for enterprises of all kinds to take part in the construction of the Belt and Road, especially related with trade, investment and law.
 
During his visit in Macao and HK, Gao also met with Edmund Ho Hau-wah, vice chairman of the CPPCC and Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of the HKSAR, to learn about the society and economy in there.
 
He also visited the permanent secretariat of forum for economic and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (Macao), Macao Wangchaoian Commercial Association and HK Chinese Importer and Exporters Association (HKCIEA), and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, to learn about their operation and development of communication with out-bond business chambers and to exchange on building a cooperation mechanism to better help enterprises in HK, Macao and the inland to participate in the construction of the Belt and Road and the greater bay area.
 
During the visit, Gao also met Fu Ziying,director of the liaison office of the central government in Macao SAR, and people working in the liaison office of the central government in HK SAR.
 
He payed a visit to the executive and standing committees’ members in HK and Macao as well and held a meeting with them to exchange on playing fully their roles of ACFIC members of the executive and standing committees to enhance inner institutional construction and to cooperate with their inland counterparts.
 
Gao also visited three companies in the Hong Kong Science Park including the Water Boc Hong Kong (international) Biological Technology, Sense Time, and the TCL HK branch as well.
 
He that the education in HK is among the top in the world with the HK University ranking in the top 100 world famous universities and a strong advantages in fundamental research.
 
He hoped that HK would play well its unique advantages and complement with the inland to promote practical cooperation in projects, finance and technology.
 
Li Dongsheng, vice chairman of ACFIC and board chairman of the TCL, Wang Jianyi, chairman of Zhejiang’s federation of industry and commerce and board chairman of Futong Group, and Wu Guangsheng, chairman of China Communication Technology, attended related activities and spoke on the 14th Cross-Strait and Hong Kong, Macao economic forum.
